Spec Construction, Inc. is currently hiring qualified individuals for the following positions in connection with a HUD-funded project. In compliance with HUD Section 3 requirements, priority consideration will be given to Section 3 eligible residents.
Job Summary
The Cement Mason is responsible for laying, smoothing, and finishing poured concrete surfaces on a variety of commercial and municipal projects. Work may include constructing and repairing floors, sidewalks, curbs, patios, roads, and gutters while ensuring quality, safety, and durability.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Consult with construction managers and clients to review project specifications, interpret blueprints, and plan concrete work accordingly.
- Perform concrete forming, pouring, finishing, and curing, ensuring proper drying times and monitoring weather conditions for quality results.
- Build and set forms; install rebar, anchor bolts, steel plates, door sills, and other embedded fixtures in freshly poured concrete.
- Spread, level, smooth, and finish surfaces using hand and power tools such as trowels, floats, straight-edges, drills, and saws.
- Install expansion joints and edges; chip, grind, scrape, resurface, waterproof, and seal concrete as needed for durability and appearance.
- Repair and reinforce existing concrete structures, including surface restoration and structural patching.
- Safely operate heavy equipment and work at heights or in confined spaces while maintaining strict safety standards.
- Maintain clean and organized job sites, assist with material estimating and scheduling, and perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Abilities
- Excellent verbal communication skills.
- Thorough understanding of the characteristics of concrete and ability to make plans based on that knowledge.
- Ability to create, lay, and use concrete forms.
- Understanding of and ability to use tools related to cement.
- Ability to create a variety of surfaces for various purposes.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to traverse and inspect all areas of jobsite in all types of weather; this may include walking, climbing, reaching, bending, crawling, or stretching.
- Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds at a time.
- Must be able to safely work with sharp tools or power equipment.
- Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions and terrains.
- Must have manual dexterity, a good sense of balance, and excellent hand-eye coordination.
